Happy Wednesday....

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 1:02 PM

Another cold day in Bloomsburg...but it's Wednesday so that is good.

Soccer tonight...Bloomsburg hosting West Chester. The women start at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. The women's matchup features the top two teams in the PSAC East with both tied for the top spot in the division. Whichever teams wins the game will take the lead in the race for first place.

The women's soccer is also ranked 15th in the country in D-II by the Soccer Coaches Association. BU is also ranked #1 in the region by the coaches, fourth in Atlantic Region by the NCAA. The top six teams in each region at the end of the conference playoffs earns a bid to the NCAA championships.

The PSAC field hockey final four is at BU this weekend. Read a preview of the tournament by clicking here.

Gold rush shirts at the University Store sold out... but more are on the way!!! Whatever is not sold in the store prior to the game will be sold at Redman Stadium on Saturday. Remember...make it a sea of gold as the Huskies battle it out for the PSAC East title with West Chester.

A few people have asked me about the Blue Lot parking. As you go past Sports Stadium you'll come to a stop sign. Turn left and follow the road to that lot. Shuttles will be running back to Redman Stadium.

Coming into town..be sure to check out our corporate partners. A list of them is available at this web page. Let them know you appreciate their support of the Huskies.

An ugly day in Bloomsburg

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 10:27 AM

It's rainy here in Bloomsburg (and snowing in other parts of the area today)...

Let's review the weekend...a good one for BU.
The football team beat Shippensburg, 21-0; the men's soccer team over Kutztown, 4-2; the women's soccer team over Kutztown, 1-0; the field hockey team beat CW Post 5-1; the women's swim team beat Mansfield, 77-57, and the cross country teams both took second at the Elizabethtown/Millersville Invitational. Not bad at all!

Rankings are out today for some sports. Football remains the top ranked team in the Super Regional One and is number four according to the American Football Coaches Association and number six by d2football.com.

The field hockey team holds on to the top spot in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll for the second straight week.

Jamie Vanartsdalen once again named the PSAC East player of the week in field hockey. She has owned the award the last week as she looks to cap a brilliant career with a PSAC and NCAA title.

The soccer teams play tomorrow at home with West Chester. The women are tied with the Golden Rams for the top spot in the PSAC East so it is a big matchup.

Some notes about this weekend...it will be busy at BU. The PSAC field hockey championships will be at Sports Stadium on Friday and Saturday. The semifinals at noon and 2:30 p.m. with the championship game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The football team will be playing for the PSAC East title against West Chester starting at 3:30 p.m. It's a gold rush game so we want to see the stands filled with gold shirts (put a sweatshirt underneath your gold shirt if it gets cold!). Gates open at 2 p.m. and there will be a second ticket booth open at the student end of the stadium for all to use. A shuttle will run from the blue lot to the stadium so take advantage of that this week.

REMEMBER...Let's show up in numbers and support the Huskies this weekend!!!

Friday Is here

It's Late on Thursday

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 12:15 PM

It's been a busy day...out of the office in the morning and catching up on a lot of e-mails upon my return.

Last night the field hockey team won its 18th game of the year, a 3-2, win over Mansfield. The Mountaineers were just the third team to score more than one goal on the Huskies in a game this season.Bloomsburg plays at CW Post on Sunday.

The NCAA women's soccer rankings are out and the Huskies are sixth in the Atlantic Region. Now the observant among you will say that yesterday I had BU at second. Well, the second place ranking is according to the coaches association. The sixth place rank is from the NCAA committee and the one that really matters.

I just a Gold Rush t-shirt that the University Store is selling for the Huskies game with West Chester next week. They are very nice and well worth the $10 cost. Earlier in the week I posted a link to the University Store web site where you can get purchase one, check it out and support the Huskies.

I hope you are not tired of me drumming up support for the Huskies with the slogan be HUSKY PROUD! I think those of us who are passionate about BU athletics need to step up both financially and by coming to a game. The West Chester game would be a great place to start....AND BE LOUD!!! We need Redman to rock on Nov. 1st!!!

Also, on Nov. 1st we hope the BU field hockey team will be playing in the PSAC title game at Sports Stadium. If you have never been to a field hockey game that day would be a time to start. This could be one of the best field hockey teams ever at BU (and that would be saying something!)

It's the Middle of the Week

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 10:04 AM

It's Wednesday...Halfway through the work week.

In soccer action last night at ESU, the women's team beat East Stroudsburg 2-1, while the men battled hard, but lost 1-0, in OT. Both teams host Kutztown this coming Saturday. The women at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

The women's soccer team is ranked 18th in the country and second in the Atlantic region.

Today the field hockey team will play at Mansfield at 4 p.m. One more goal for the Huskies and they will set a new D-II record for goals scored in a season. (FYI...the Huskies set the current record of 132 last year!)

Received word that the Big 10 network will not be carrying the BU-Penn State men's basketball game on Nov. 9th. Not sure why the change, but of course WHLM radio will carry the game locally here in Bloomsburg and on the internet at www.whlmam.com.

Think someone you know who is a former BU athlete is worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame? Send a name and any supporting info you might have to me, Tom McGuire, in the BU Sports Information Office or through e-mail at tmcguire@bloomu.edu

It's Hard to Come up with a Creative Headline

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 7:39 AM

You know...some days I just can't think of a creative headline for the blog...today is one of those days.

No action yesterday for the Huskies. Today the men's and women's soccer teams play at East Stroudsburg. The men start at 5 p.m. and the women at 7 p.m.

Make it five times now that Jamie Vanartsdalen has been named the PSAC East Player of the Week in field hockey. Pretty soon they'll name the award in her honor she has won it so many times!

Football rankings are out and the Huskies are now number four in the American Football Coaches Association top 20 poll. The Huskies are now number six in the d2football.com poll and still number one in the NCAA Super Region One ranking. The NCAA rankings are what determine the teams for NCAA championships.

Got some nice feedback on the pictures of BU fans being Husky Proud! If you have anything you'd like to share with the group drop me an e-mail at tmcguire@bloomu.edu

Vote...in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year program. The link is to the left of this blog entry.
