Getting Ready for Turkey Weekend Football

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 6:38 AM

Hi everyone...it's been a crazy couple of weeks here in the sports info office. Lots of teams in playoffs, winter sports underway and the fun continues this weekend with a home football playoff game!

First let's talk about last night at the Nelson Field House. The women's basketball team beat Goldey-Beacom College 78-47. In the game senior Colleen Kegerreis scored 24 points to lead the Huskies to the win. Kegerreis needed 24 points going into the game to reach 1,000 for her career and got to the magical number with 18 seconds to play. Congrats to Colleen. The Huskies are 3-1 on the year now.

The wrestling team took part in the Body Bar Invitational last weekend at Cornell University and the Huskies finished fourth. Matt Moley led the way for the Huskies with a second place finish. BU goes back to New York this weekend for the Northeast Duals.

The men's basketball team is off to a 2-2 start and freshman Dan Hoover was named the PSAC East Freshmen of the Week for his play last week. Check out the web site for a story on Dan's efforts which won him the award.

The men's and women's swim teams were in the water last weekend and lost a tough meet to the College of New Jersey. Several swimmers swam conference-qualifying times in the meet. Check out the web for more info.

Now on to football...the Huskies beat West Chester last week and now host Cal this week. It was good to see meet some folks I have communicated with via e-mail, including Rod Dodson from Michigan. Rod drove all the way from Grand Rapids to be at the game this past weekend. We need folks like Rod this weekend to come and make noise since the BU students will be on Thanksgiving break. Be HUSKY PROUD and come and support BU football as it continues it quest for an NCAA title. Kickoff is at noon with gates opening at 10:30 a.m. The weather will be much warmer (as warm as 40 degrees can feel) so come out BE LOUD!!

just got word that Jon Ochs was named first team Academic All-American. That is a great honor and one well deserved. To be first team Academic All-American is very hard considering all the athletes playing Division II and III ball (Division I has a separate award for Academic All-American).

Keep voting in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award. It is coming down to crunch time and coach Hale needs all the votes he can get! The link is to the left on this site.

We'll have live stats from the playoff game this weekend as well as live streaming video of the game. But...we'd rather see you here in person to watch!

GO HUSKIES!!!

Accoring to weather.com, the temperature in Bloomsburg is 25 degrees. It's a little bit colder here on the field.

There is a pretty stiff wind heading across the field at 13 mph. Sophomore Michael Varanavage, who has a pretty strong arm, just had a pass re-directed from his intended receiver. The wind will be a factor for sure.

QB's and recivers have just arrived on the field for both teams. Ben Weaber looks to be 100% and ready to go. Dylan Manni will also play today.

Also, just in case you lost it, the game will be video streamed on NCAAsports.com.

Sorry for the delay between blog posts. It has been a very busy week.

Right now BU is preparing to host the NCAA Division II field hockey championships, the final four, next Friday (Nov. 14) and Sunday (Nov. 16). Bloomsburg and Bentley College have received byes into the semifinals. The finals are set for Sunday, the 16th at 1 p.m.

The football team, of course, is still in the running for an NCAA playoff bid. The Huskies dropped to fourth in the region after last week's loss to West Chester. Bloomsburg, though, has a shot to move up if two of the team's in front of them lose this weekend. WCU plays at Cal and American International (#2) plays Southern Connecticut. If BU does not move up to number two in the rankings, there will be a home game on Nov. 15th. The pairings for the NCAA playoffs will be announced on Sunday between 3 and 3:30 p.m. on ESPN News.

The women's soccer team also has a good shot at making the NCAA playoffs. The Huskies are number three in this week's regional rankings and the top six make the tournament. The pairings will be announced on Nov. 10th on ncaa.com.

The cross country team runs in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals tomorrow at Slippery Rock. We'll have a full report at BU Huskies.COM

The men's basketball team plays at Penn State on Sunday at 2 p.m. You can see the game on the web at Big 10 Network or listen on the web to Jim Doyle at WHLM.COM

Keep voting in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year contest. Coach Hale needs all the support we can give him as he looks for another big finish just as he did two years ago!

A follow-up to last weekend's homecoming game. What a tremendous crowd! It was great to see so many people get fired up to come watch the Huskies. There were lots of gold shirts (there could have been more!!!), but we'll work on that for next year. Let's make sure we show our support this weekend to the field hockey team (it would be great to see the house packed for them), and hopefully the football team.

BE HUSKY PROUD!!!!
