A daily look at the Bloomsburg University Athletic teams.

Welcome to a Tuesday Morning....

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 5:41 AM

Tuesday morning....foggy here in Bloomsburg...but enough on the weather!

Looking back to the weekend it was a good one for the Huskies. The football, women's soccer, field hockey (twice) and a men's tennis (Fernando Perez) all won games/matches/and or a tournament during the weekend. You can read all about the results on the web page.

Jamie Vanartsdalen was named the PSAC East field hockey player of the week for the period ending Sunday. Vanartsdalen scored 10 points last week on three goals and four assists to her the honor for the fourth time this season.

Tuesday is ranking day for most sports. So far we have the football rankings in to us and there was no change in any of the rankings/polls. The Huskies remain number one in the NCAA Super Region One ranking (this is the ranking that selects teams for the NCAA championships), number six in the American Football Coaches Poll and number seven in the D2football.com poll. Regional rankings for women's soccer and field hockey will be released later today.

Today the field hockey team will go on the road to face Millersville at 4 p.m. Get the score tonight on the Huskies web site or by calling the Husky Hotline at 570-389-2828.

The University Store is selling commerative Gold Rush t-shirts for the Homecoming game on Nov. 1st. Order yours today at the University Store. Also, it’s Touchdown Tuesday at the University Store and because of the Huskies big win over East Stroudsburg last Saturday the discount is 25% Off Clothing and Insignia Gifts.

A week or so ago I asked for anyone who is Husky Proud to send me examples of their Husky pride. Rod Dodson, class of 1983, who now lives in Caledonia, Michigan, proudly flies his Bloomsburg University flag each weekend. Rod lives near Grand Rapids, a stones throw from Grand Valley State, the perennial D-2 power. If you have examples of being Husky Proud e-mail them to tmcguire@bloomu.edu and I will try and use them in blog.

Don't forget to vote in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year program. The link is on the side bar of the Huskies Daily Update Blog. We need to get Coach Hale into the top three of Division II!

It's Tuesday afternoon again...

A look back at the weekend (briefly)...Football and women's soccer won; the men's soccer team came up short; the cross country had a decent race at Slippery Rock and the men's tennis team sent a few players to the semi-finals of the ITA regionals. Overall, a decent weekend for the Huskies.

Today the women's soccer team hosts Mansfield at 5:30 p.m. at Sports Stadium, while the men will host Holy Family in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.

Rankings are out today and the field hockey team stays at number two in the nation. The Huskies host East Stroudsburg tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at Sports Stadium.

The top six teams in each region at the end of the season advance to the NCAA playoffs. The Huskies are also ranked number six in the American Football Coaches Association poll and number seven by d2football.com.

Don't forget to vote Danny Hale in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year program. There is a link to the left of this posting. Let's get Danny up to number one.

This weekend is fall break here at Bloomsburg. We need everyone to come out and support the Huskies in what is going to be a huge game with East Stroudsburg. Kickoff is set for noon. All military personnel and their families will be admitted free to the game. We're asking all fans to bring some items for our troops serving oversees. you can bring snacks, toiletries, phone cards, etc.

Just two home events this weekend for the Huskies. Tomorrow through Monday the ITA Atlantic and East Region men's tennis regional championships will be held on the Huskies' home courts. Hopefully the weather is better than last weekend!

The cross country teams got out to Slippery Rock for a big meet called the SRU Pre-National Invitational. (The regional and national championships will be held on this course). The 6,000-meter women's competition, set to start at 11 a.m., will feature five teams currently ranked in the U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll. That elite group includes #6 Cal State Los Angeles, #14 UC San Diego, #17 Bloomsburg, #19 Dallas Baptist (TX) and the 25th-ranked Slippery Rock women. The 8,000-meter men's race, set to start at 11:45 a.m., will feature #20 Lock Haven and #24 UC San Diego.

A split last night

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 6:05 AM

Thursday morning...starting to feel like fall here in Bloomsburg.

Last night the women's soccer team beat Millesville 2-1 in overtime. The Huskies trailed 1-0 until the 81st minute when Suzie Wade scored. After reaching the end of regulation, Kelly Modes scored the gamewinner for Bloomsburg in the 98th minute. The Huskies are now 7-3 on the year and 4-2 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg will host Gannon on Saturday.

The men's soccer team lost to Millersville 2-0. The Huskies fall to 4-3-4 with the loss, 1-2-2 in the PSAC East. The Huskies play at Lock Haven on Saturday.

It will be a quiet night on Thursday as there is no action for any Bloomsburg team.

Be sure to make plans to attend an upcoming BU home sporting event. We need to make Bloomsburg the toughest place in the PSAC to play. Don't forget the Gold Rush on Nov. 1st with West Chester. Be There...Be Loud...WEAR GOLD!

Don't forget to vote Danny Hale in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Program. The link is on the side of this blog. Danny is in 5th place right now.
