Finally catching up on some of the backlog of work in the SID office. I hope to get better at posting things to this blog in 2009!

Here is one item to keep note of over the holiday break.

The 2008 Division II national field hockey player of the year, Jamie Vanartsdalen from Bloomsburg University, will be one of the student-athletes featured on the national TV broadcast of "CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA" that will air at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, December 27, on CBS (in the Bloomsburg area on WYOU-TV).

Vanartsdalen will be featured for her outstanding career that took her from walk-on four years ago to the all-time scoring leader in division II field hockey history and one of the most prolific scorers ever in all divisions of collegiate field hockey.

Also, highlights and stories from cross country, soccer and volleyball will be featured in the program. For the 2008-09 academic year, CBS Sports will feature over 40 of the NCAA’s 88 championships in the three seasonal shows. For the sixth consecutive year, all 88 National Collegiate Athletic Association championships will receive television exposure, including 10 fall sports to be featured in a one-hour special.

Have a great holiday season and a happy new year from the sports information office at Bloomsburg. Let's hope 2009 is as successful as 2008 was for the Huskies!

It's a Monday...

It's Monday afternoon...

Football season came to an end with a tough 27-24 loss to Cal at Redman Stadium. The Huskies were oh-so close to reaching the national semifinals and in all probability hosting the game. But, it just wasn't meant to be. Congrats to coach Danny Hale and his staff and of course the players on a job well done. Keep voting in the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year program. We are nearing the end and Danny has a good shot to reach the finals. We can't stop voting just because football season is done!!

The wrestling team took part in the Northeast Duals on Saturday and won one match and lost two. One of the losses was to top-ranked Iowa, while the other loss was to 20th ranked Old Dominion. Matt Moley had a big day for the Huskies winning all three of his matches. Matt was named the EWL wrestler of the week for his efforts. The Huskies wrestle this weekend at the PSAC championships at Mercyhurst.

The men's basketball team lost to 20th-ranked Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday.Ruben Britt scored 21 points and Larry Webster 17 for the Huskies.

No action tonight for any Bloomsburg teams.

Remember...carry your support for the Huskies inside! We have a full slate of winter events coming up. If you'd like a schedule, e-mail me at tmcguire@bloomu.edu and I will put a card in the mail for you. At all home basketball games this year we are playing the State Farm 500. Two lucky fans compete at halftime for a chance to win a gift card from Sheetz courtesy of State Farm Insurance, just by driving a radio remote control car. It is really funny so be on the lookout for that at each home game this year.

Go Huskies!!!
