Wrap Up from the Weekend

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 7:01 AM

Good afternoon. Here is the Huskies Update for Tuesday, Sept. 8

Well it's back to work after a long labor day weekend. I hope everyone enjoyed the last gasp of summer. Fall is now here in my book!

LAST NIGHT
The field hockey team dropped their first game of the season on Monday night by a 2-1 score to Kutztown. Breanne Tobin scored the Huskies lone goal in the game. BU had a chance to tie the game in the closing moments of the contest, but could not get the equalizer. Bloomsburg, now 3-1, will play at CW Post on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

FOOTBALL
The football team had a big win over California (PA) on Saturday night by a 17-10 score. QB Dan Latorre hit Cory Stiger with the gamewinning score with 22 seconds left to play. Cal did have one final chance and drove to the BU 36-yard line, but the final desperation pass fell short and the Huskies hung on for the win.

Bloomsburg moved up to fifth in the latest American Football Coaches Association D-II poll. We'll be posting a story about the rankings later today.

MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team lost to #3 ranked Millersville by a score of 2-0. The loss was the first of the year for the Huskies. Bloomsburg plays home with St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The women's soccet team beat Millersville 3-1 on Saturday. Bloomsburg is now 2-1 and will host Mansfield on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

CROSS COUNTRY
The Huskies men's and women's teams opened their season hosting Susquehanna on Saturday. The men won 27-28, while the women were victorious 23-26. Angela Borealo took first for the women. Bloomsburg will be at Mountaineer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19.

HALL OF FAME
The BU Athletic Hall of Fame dinner is coming up on Oct. 2nd. To read more about this year's class go to for the story. If you'd like to buy a ticket to the dinner, please call me at 570-389-4413 or email me at tmcguire@bloomu.edu.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT
The soccer teams had a big evening against West Chester. The women won 1-0 and the men posted a 3-0 win. Katie Walczuk scored the women's only goal, while Marcus Valeriano scored once and added one assist in the men's victory. The women's team is now 1-1, while the men are 2-0. Start of the First Week of Classes

Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 12:43 PM

Here is the Huskies Update for Monday, Aug. 31st.

Today is the start of classes at Bloomsburg for the 2009-10 school year. A crazy day trying to find a parking space!

FOOTBALL
Congrats go out to middle linebacker Anthony Smith who was named the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Ashland. Smith made a career-high 11 tackles in the Huskies 10-7 win over the Eagles. We'll be posting an interview with Anthony sometime tomorrow asking him about his award. Be sure to check your Twitter updates from me for when that gets posted.

FIELD HOCKEY
The Huskies ran their winning streak to 17 games dating back to last year with two wins over the weekend. Bloomsburg beat Houghton College 5-0 and Stonehill College 4-0 over the weekend. Amanda Riley scored three goals in the two games to lead the Huskies. Bloomsburg, winners of 28 of their last 29 games dating to 2007, will host Seton Hill College on Thursday at 4 p.m.

FOOTBALL FOLLOW-UP
A few folks who attended the Huskies opener with Ashland have inquired about the volume of the PA system. Sitting inside the press box I have to admit I don;t know how loud the PA sounds in the crowd. Rest assured that for the CW Post game on Sept. 26 we'll tone it down for everyone!

BU MAGAZINE

Check out the new issue of the Bloomsburg University magazine here. There is a cover story on BU quarterback Dan Latorre as well as some other sports stories.

TODAY
There is no action today for any Bloomsburg University sports team.

BIG WIN In FOOTBALL
It was a big win for the football team in front of a great crowd on Thursday as the Huskies downed Ashland by a score of 10-7. There was some great defense played by BU, especially by Anthony Smith with 11 tackles. Offensively, Dan Latorre rushed for one score and Stefan Adams gained over 100 yards. Click here to see highlights of the Ashland game.

BU is now away for three weeks and will return on Sept. 26th. Next up is Cal on Saturday, 9/5 at 7 p.m. The game will be aired on Fox Sports Pittsburgh.

MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team opened with a win on Thursday, 2-1, over Caldwell College. The Huskies rallied with two late, first half goals. Bloomsburg will now face Nyack College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The women's soccer team lost to 25th-ranked CW Post on Thursday, 4-0. The Huskies host West Chester on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

FIELD HOCKEY
The Huskies open the 2009 season with back to back home games this weekend. Bloomsburg plays Houghton College on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then face Stonehill on Sunday at noon. Come out and see the three-time defending national champs.
