Getting My Report Done Early Today
Written by Bloomsburg Sports Info on 6:21 AM
Good morning. Here is the Huskies Update for Thursday, April 2.
Getting the update done early today! Most days I don't get time till later in the day, but I like that I have a few minutes this morning.
LACROSSE
The Huskies took care of East Stroudsburg yesterday 13-9. Kelsey Quigley scored four goals and Allison Ziants stopped a career-high 18 shots for the Huskies. BU is now 7-2, 4-1 in the PSAC East. The Huskies have a PSAC-East showdown with Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
TOMORROW
Big day tomorrow for softball (if the weather permits) as it battles division-rival Lock Haven at Jan Hutchinson Field starting at 2:30 p.m. The Huskies and Lady Eagles are tied atop the PSAC Central Division standings with marks of 4-0 each. Should there by rain, check the BU web site for updated game info. Bloomsburg then plays at Kutztown on Saturday.
The baseball team will be at Mansfield tomorrow, then home on Saturday to face the Mounties starting at 1 p.m.
The men's and women's tennis teams are at Millersville on Friday starting at 2 p.m., then home on the weekend for matches with West Chester and Adelphi.
The track and field teams will be at the PSAC East Challenge on Saturday.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
A couple of questions came in this week on wrestling and scholarships for the sports here at BU. Thanks to Rod '83 and Dan '99 for this.
NCAA D-I allows 9.9 scholarships for wrestling. BU offers about half the permitted number of scholarships for wrestling. For the other sports, the number of allowable scholarships differs by sports. Unfortunately resources are not there for BU coaches to work with the maximum amount of dollars. Here in PA, in fact at any state-owned institution, all dollars that are used for scholarships (both athletic and academic) must be raised by each institution. That means before a coach can go out and offer money, he/she or someone else here at BU, must go out and raise the money.
Part of my duties are to raise corporate sponsorship dollars. That is why it is important for our fans/parents/alums to support businesses here in the area that support BU Athletics. We have increased every year, for 3-4 years, the numbers of corporate dollars brought in, which I am very proud of.
it is also important for you, the fan, to support the Huskies Athletic Association. Join by clicking here. We all know in these tough economic times that money is tight. But please try not to forget about BU athletics if you are able to make a donation. Your support is needed!
Have a question you would like answered? Drop me a line at tmcguire@bloomu.edu and I will do my best to answer it for you.
TWITTER
Don't forget to get a twitter account (twitter.com) then sign up to follow up the Huskies. I send out short little notes through the day (and sometimes the evening) on BU sports.
No update tomorrow. I will be off. We'll chat again on Monday!
